THIS Is How You Should Be Camping This Summer
Uttering the ‘C’ word around a bunch of parents is either going to give you a look of horror, or a look of deep affection.
You see, camping is just one of those things that divides people like that. Those that love it, thrive in the great outdoors with just a trowel for a toilet and those that hate it, well, they just hate every damn thing about it…and sometimes you can sort of see their point.
When erecting a family sized tent can take the best part of a day and you’ve still got a bit left over that looks like it’s important, and then despite your cushie air mattress, the ground is rocky and slopes down at one side, well, it’s just not surprising that camping can be an…acquired taste.
Because, while lots of us love the outdoors, we also kind of like, you know, sleeping…on something, a little more comfortable. So, are there any outdoor options for those of on a caravan-park budget but with glamping aspirations? It turns out, there is and it looks brilliant! The Tentsile is an incredibly invention that is part hammock, part tent and all round awesome, and it looks like THE coolest way to camp. Tentsile tents are a way of camping literally in the air. Instead of pegging your tent into the ground, you simply find three trees, or any other strong anchor points, and tension your tent above the ground like a hammock. This means you can even string up your camp the rockiest boulders or even snooze the night away hovering over a creek or waterhole. Plus, you can even create a stacked tree house where you can rig up layers of tents to create a multi-storey camping solution that would be perfect for families or groups of mates. Alex Shirley-Smith, the inventor of the Tentsile, got the original inspiration for his creation from the Ewok tree villages in the Star Wars movie. Now his ‘treehouse architecture’ is being sold all over the world, with a growing list of designs and configurations that make camping seem like less of a ‘C’ word and more like the lot of fun that it should be. Did you do the camping thing this summer? Would you like to camp in a Tentsile tent?
