Best Discipline Strategy Ever: The I Love You Shirt
Siblings fight. All the time.
It drives parents mad and can make any outing/holiday/car trip/supermarket visit a living hell.
Kids fight over the weirdest things. Mine had a fight over a plastic netting bag used to contain lemons the other day.
The mind boggles.
My kids seem to be unmoved by many punishments. I end up blustering about never having dessert again. They always know I’m bluffing, or they’re too busy pulling each other’s hair and wiping boogers on each other to notice.
But this is probably the best punishment I ‘ve ever seen and it will soon be implemented into the Toovey house.
I’ve seen the Get Along T-shirt. And it’s brilliant. Siblings forced to share a big t-shirt as they go about their daily business is a great idea. They have to work together and compromise. And their miserable facials are just priceless.
But this American mum took the Get Along T-shirt to a whole new levs.
She makes her kids wear a giant t-shirt and then…slow dance.
When 10 year old Dominique and 8 year old Tyler have a barney, their mum, Alexis, knows exactly what to do.
She puts them in their ‘I Love You’ shirt and they have to lock fingers and eyes and slow dance for as many songs as Alexis sees fit.
“It depends on how bad the situation is that particular day. If it’s something really dramatic I put on two or three songs,” she told CBS News.
Apart from being the funniest thing that has ever happened, Alexis thinks the punishment teaches her kids a useful lesson as well. Bonus!
“I want them to get along, to stick together. So that’s what I’ll keep trying to teach them. Whatever it is that you’re arguing or bickering about it’s silly, let it go.”
Whatever the outcome, it will sure make for some hilarious stories at the party when the siblings turn 21.
