This Dog’s An Adorable Houdini! General’s Hospital Great Escape!
Cats may be the subjects of the single most popular category of videos viewed on YouTube, but for me, dog videos win hands (paws?) down.
One of the most recent and completely fabulous pieces of footage to grace our screens is from the state of Virginia in the USA.
Its adorable star is 10-year-old ‘General’ (who is a breed of dog called a Great Pyrenees – he looks kind of like a Golden Retriever to me) who had been staying at the Aquia-Garrisonville Animal Hospital while his owners were on holidays.
General is obviously a dog who not only knows his mind but also smart enough to know how to get his way. Internal video footage shows him effortlessly opening the door to his kennel (watch for the reaction on the face of the dog in the kennel next to him – it’s priceless!). General then proceeds to open another door by taking the handle in his mouth and pulling it down, allowing him access to another part of the hospital, where he is seen moseying around the corridors and offices.
What I love most about General is his determination. It took him around three hours, but he finally managed to work his way out of the hospital and into the car parking lot, where he coolly completes his break for freedom.
While the official footage stops there, at this heart-in-mouth junction, the story does have a happy ending. General was found the next morning having a snooze in someone’s backyard – escaping is clearly exhausting. He was reunited with his owners, who knew of his door-opening antics, but never expected him to go to such lengths.
It looks like locksmiths around the world might find themselves with a sudden influx of work, as animal hospitals are forced to review their containment procedures. Well played General, well played.
