This interactive graphic novel will turn you into a detective in no time
As a kid I enjoyed flicking through comics and graphic novels, but have you ever played a graphic novel?
Link to video hereInkSpotters is a cross between a graphic novel and a word-based detective game rolled into one. In this first edition, you play as a kind of meta-detective, where you follow Sherlock Holmes and Watson as they uncover mysteries and solve crimes. Only one panel of the story is visible when starting; to reveal more panels you must type a word that you think might lead to uncovering the next part of the story, based on what you see in the panels. The aim is to completely reveal the story, and unraveling the mystery.
The illustrations are beautiful, although the interface feels it could do with a little more polish at times. The tutorial is a great start to understand the flow of play, and gets you in the detective mindset right off the bat!
InkSpotters reminds me of those old choose-your-own adventure books, where you're constantly jumping around to unravel the narrative, and at the same time it’s like a Tarantino movie where you're piecing the story together in a non-sequential manner.
It's a great game for the budding detectives in the family, and it's challenging enough to keep an adult gamer entertained for a while.
